047 06/001 POST-BUDDHIST RESISTANCE

Influence of Buddhism over the sacred Hindu Scripture Bhagavad Gita, is worth studying into, in depth.

AATMA SAMYAMANA YOGA 001 - POSC (Path of Self-Control)

Anaas`ritaha karmaphalam kaaryam
karma karooti yaha
sa sanyaasii ca yoogii ca
na nir agnir na ca akriyaha.

MEANINGS OF DIFFICULT WORDS
Anaas`ritaha : Unattached.

karmaphalam : Fruits and results of acts.
kaaryam : acts
sanyaasii : relinquished person

nir - agni : person without fire (person who does not maintain the ritual fires at home, as was the requirement of those days.)

akriyaha : person who does not perform acts. (Acts here apparently mean the acts prescribed by caste, family, religion and the society).

English Gist

Krishna answered here, the question of who is real relinquisher (Sanyaasi ). A person who discharges his duties without expecting results is the real relinquisher and united person- UP. (yogi-whose human soul united with the Supreme Spirit). A person who abandons the sacrificial fire is not a relinquisher. A person who abstains from his duties (body, family, social) is not a uniter.

This is the first verse of the sixth Chapter.

This chapter is called the Union of Self Control or the Union of Meditation. Better phrase is Path of Self Control (POSC).

This verse seems to be a criticism of the Buddhist practices of relinquishment prevailing between Ashoka and 1000 A.D.

Those who converted to Buddhism relinquished sacrifices, got their heads tonsured, and left their families. Agriculture and martial arts suffered.

This verse seems to aim to bring back, the sheep which have drifted to Buddhism. This may be similar to the 21st Century India's campaigns such as 'ghar vApsi (=home coming, i.e. combing back to the home of the Aryan Culture).

Government of India seems (may not be correct) to be encouraging campaigners who say that their Movements/sects are Independent Religions. It may be noted that Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Basava-ism are not independent religions. They are only Reformative Movements at a particular point of time.

I have visited the link. May I know whether you are the author of the Gita book marketed at the site referred by you? Have you seen my translation of Bhagavad Gita at my blog Bhagavadgitayb.blogspot.com? You can copy full text in Roman script and English translation at post No. #000, there.

Numerous explanations... cut-and-paste of textual notes by thousands... unlimited forums and blogs... yet teachings of Bhagavad Gita seemed afar. Why? Why teachings of Bhagavad Gita are beyond capture of normal human beings... commoners... even learned scholars! The answer to this riddle is hidden in Bhagavad Gita itself!

The sacred contents of Bhagavad Gita can never be understood literally... one needs reading in between the lines! However best one tries... still, the underlying meaning remains a distant dream! It is only by traveling path of absolute truthfulness human beings finally unveiled pearls of wisdom hidden in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism.

By establishing absolute control over five senses human beings finally understood gist of life! In present times... the Kali Yuga... metal age... dark age one finds it really difficult to follow path of absolute truthfulness... it is rightly said one may not earn even bread-and-butter for the day by walking path of absolute truthfulness... always and ever!

What is the remedy? The remedy truly lay in our goal of life! If our goal of life is fixed... if we truly desire reaching God Almighty in present life time... if we have the patience persistence and perseverance... the willpower exhibited by Swami Vivekananda... we definitely can reach ultimate goal of life... stage of enlightenment in present life time (understand Bhagavad Gita in Toto)!
